Terrace House, Paddington

2021

Software and skills:
AutoCad

The brief was to redesign and document an existing two storey terrace house with  heritage constraints. The existing street elevation, with the existing ridgeline as the highest point, had to be preserved. Off street parking is located at the rear of the property with a security gate and fence enclosing the property. Egress to the house can be made from the parking space.

The client requested an attic space be incorporated into the redesign. This redesign allowed for storage and an ensuite to be included within the attic space and for an extension of the rear roofline to include a Master Bedroom with local and city views adjacent to the ensuite .

Essential to the design was the inclusion of a basement and an internal staircase that would connect the basement, ground floor, first floor and attic floors. The staircase design was constructed of timber risers and treads with a custom designed steel balustrade.

As you enter through the front door immediately to your left is a small lounge area with large casement windows. Ahead of you is a banquet seat in the kitchen/dining area. A galley kitchen with fluted glass doors on the overhead cabinets and timber doors below runs along the opposite wall. A small balcony with limited seating is located off the kitchen to the rear of the property.

Between the lounge and the kitchen is the centrally located staircase leading down to the basement where you find an extensive cellar space, 3rd bathroom, laundry and an office space.

Located on the first floor is the second and third bedrooms and main bathroom. The second bedroom has a vaulted ceiling which provides a more expansive feeling to the room.
